Volunteers have been a vital part of The Jewish Guild for the Blind since its founding in 1914. Volunteers help provide a link between Guild staff and persons receiving services.
Some of the ways in which Guild Volunteers help visually impaired people enjoy fuller and more independent lives:
- Read newspapers and books to groups or to individuals
- Read newspapers and magazines over InTouch Networks, a radio reading service
- Help with arts and crafts: ceramics, knitting, crocheting and sewing groups
- Offer music appreciation and music instruction
- Lead literature, drama, exercise and dance workshops
- Help with groups going to museums, shops and concerts
- Take individuals to doctors' and dentists' offices
- Conduct walking tours and recreational trips
- Assist in letter writing, filling out business forms and the paying of bills
- Assist with Guild clerical work, including mailings
Volunteers are always needed at The Guild and at InTouch Networks, Inc. Other locations that rely on volunteers are GuildCare, located in New York City, Yonkers, Albany, Buffalo, Niagara Falls and Boston. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact:
