  Incorporating Low Vision Rehabilitation into Occupational Therapy

DESCRIPTION: A day-long workshop to provide a comprehensive overview of vision assessment techniques and low vision devices and techniques. Participants will take part in a hands-on application of common vision assessment techniques and tools, and learn to use commonly prescribed low vision devices. OTs will receive .6 AOTA continuing education units for their participation.*
 
DESCRIPTION:
  1. Become familiar with common optical devices and how they are applied to everyday tasks such as reading, writing, and seeing details at a distance.
  2. Interpret an OD/MD report or vision diagnosis.
  3. Review and practice basic vision assessments that can be performed by the OT, to measure eye dominance, acuity, contrast sensitivity, visual field, scotomas, reading and writing performance.
  4. Interpret vision assessment results and apply the results to patient goal-setting and visual skills training.
  5. Discuss interventions that incorporate low vision devices and techniques into activities of daily living.
  6. Discuss goal writing and documentation to adequately capture vision loss and function for insurance coverage and reimbursement.
 
FACULTY: Occupational Therapist, Optometrist
 
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS: Each participant will receive a packet of resource materials that support and enhance the training provided.

The fee for this workshop is $125 for each participant, $95 for AOTA members. Please contact us to inquire about group rates.
