  Mental Health Day Treatment
 

Mental Health Day Treatment is offered to blind and visually impaired individuals who are moderately to seriously mentally ill. The program aims to help clients function as independently as possible through the acquisition of personal, social and interpersonal skills.

Interdisciplinary teams of psychiatrists, social workers, case managers and creative arts therapists work with persons with vision loss, aged 18 and over, who have designated mental illness, emotional and behavioral problems. These individuals may also have other developmental and physical disabilities.

Mental Health Day Treatment is one of many health services provided by The Guild, where extensive rehabilitation services provide clients with the widest continuum of care.  Licensed by the New York State Office of Mental Health, the Mental Health Day Treatment Program is designated as a Comprehensive Outpatient Program Service (COPS).

Treatment Goals

  • Assist clients to remain in their communities
  • Help prevent psychiatric hospitalization
  • Help clients overcome the frustrations of living with coexisting disabilities
  • Prepare clients for entry into vocational/rehabilitation programs
  • Introduce clients to educational, recreational and social community resources

Treatment Interventions

  • Case management
  • Group therapy as a primary treatment method
  • Crisis intervention
  • Psychopharmacology
  • Medical coordination and liaison
  • Skill-building for the management of psychiatric symptoms
  • Initiating behavorial changes that promote positive action, health and well-being
